Lila Smith values connection, communication, creativity, community, fun, meaningful work, and making a difference, but didn’t always know what to do about it.
She had been acting professionally for over 10 years. It made her happy… kind of.
But did people connect with her? Or just the characters she played?
She also worked in eCommerce, where leading a team made her happy… kind of.
But how creative was she allowed to be? Was she really making a difference?
Something wasn’t right. Lila was “doing well” professionally, but she hadn’t been making decisions with her values.
On June 1, 2017, Lila began a self-discovery journey, taking a YouMap® assessment, asking herself who she was and what she knew, and engaging with global professionals on LinkedIn for over 1,000 consecutive days. There, she built a community of 40,000+ others who share her values.
By June 1, 2018, Lila had left both acting and corporate life behind... kind of.
Lila created the Say Things Better® Method of Intentional Communication based on her work in theater, and now uses it to help professionals communicate and connect better every day.
Her work includes a tool called Verb Your Values™, which reminds us what matters to us when talking or listening to others.
You’ve Got Values! is her first children’s book, co-authored with YouMap® Creator Kristin A. Sherry. You’ve Got Values! helps children (and their adults) take a look at what matters to them, and get ready to start making decisions with their values, too.
