Amanda L. Redwine

After two decades working in corporate finance, Amanda Redwine changed careers into mental health counseling with a focus on families of struggling teens. Five years ago, Amanda began walking the parent’s path alongside her son from inpatient care to wilderness and on to therapeutic boarding school. One of the most remarkable lessons from the entire experience was how much healing was needed for every member of the family after the trauma of placing a teen in treatment. Ending the enmeshment and entering the emotional journey of differentiation were only made possible by the support of caring professionals along the way, which inspired her to change careers.

Amanda is finishing an internship at the Counseling Center of Illinois and focuses her practice on parent coaching, as well as treatment for substance abuse addiction.

“Holding space for a family going through this journey is an honor, an opportunity to extend healing energy to another human being…allowing them to feel deeply seen and supported. There’s no greater gift you can receive when your teen is struggling.” - Amanda

Amanda brings her personal experience of parenting a child through the therapeutic intervention process to her coaching practice. She believes that there is something really empowering about being able to survive hiring people to “goon” your child in the middle of the night, then getting up out of the fetal position afterward to do the work of owning your own life again, separate, and unique from your child’s struggles.

Parent coaching is a powerful support for families. When your child is in treatment, the program’s focus is on your child; your job is to focus on you. The absolute best thing you can do to support the success of your teen is to take this time to invest in your family through your own work. Amanda comes to the table with a sense of humor and perspective, along with clinical training to support your healing journey.

Amanda lives in Chicago with her wife, Anne, and son, Kael. The family affectionately refer to it as “Crazytown” where everyone’s welcome for a good Italian meal and laughing until your sides hurt. They love hard and embrace their weird a little more every day!
