Russ Smith

Russ Smith (aka, SportsGeek) first learned the powerful connection between sports and mathematics when he won the Newark, NJ, city-wide 9th Grade Algebra competition. He credits this victory to his interest in sports metrics, such as batting averages.

He went on to complete high school with honors, and then obtained a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree in Computer Science. As a financial specialist he analyzed billion dollar budgets, and regularly used analogies from the world of sports to present complex financial reports.

Today, SportsGeek is a volunteer tutor specializing in mathematics. He is always gratified to see the light bulb go on when students grasp math concepts because of a sports based example. He uses his tutoring experience to create books to inspire the next generation of SportsGeeks.
