A frontline reporter, first for the Daily Express, and then since 1986 for The Times, I have covered six wars - Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Former Republic of Macedonia, Iraq and Afghanistan. For three years, from 2010-2013, I was Pentagon Correspondent for The Times in Washington and still write regularly for The Times as a defence specialist freelance writer. I have written eight books, the most recent, First With The News (published in 2016), a memoir of my experiences as a frontline reporter, and The Boy With Zoom-Lens Eyes (2021), a children's mystery adventure story.
