Denise James

Denise James is a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in private practice, and the author of the Back to Love series: Back to Love, Inner Life Writes, A Manifesto for RE-Connecting to Love, RE-Newing Your Mind and Radiating Your Light, and A Black Woman’s Alchemy Poems.

She specialises in attending to the silenced and lost children within people, supporting healing that honours not only how life began, but the ending we are willing to consciously create when recreation is called for.

Her work is grounded in an understanding of the lasting impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), early childhood adversity, and the racial hauntings that arise from living in an unequal and unjust society.

Denise works with people from all walks of life and is trauma- and social-justice-informed, with a particular commitment to Black women. She creates spaces where Black women can come home to their voice, truth, and vibrant inner life — moving from silence to self-expression, and from wound to wonder, without apology.

Her own journey from trauma to wholeness is documented in Back to Love. She continues this work daily through therapy, writing, advocacy, and community.

This is not simply a career.

It is a calling.
