Renske Schut

Renske Schut is a Dutch author, researcher, photographer, and senior copywriter. In The Digital Grip, she examines a question that is often overlooked in discussions about young people and technology: who profits from the vulnerabilities of the developing adolescent.

The book moves beyond screen time and parental rules. It investigates the business model behind digital platforms, the persuasive techniques used to hold attention, and the consequences for mental health, learning, identity, and emotional development.

Schut’s work combines scientific research with a sharp analysis of commercial incentives. Her aim is not to blame teenagers or parents, but to expose the system designed around them.

With her previous book, More About Misophonia, she has appeared as a guest on Pauw, the nationally televised Dutch talk show hosted by Jeroen Pauw, one of the Netherlands’ best-known interviewers.

Originally from the Netherlands and now living in Portugal, Schut writes from an independent European perspective on one of the most urgent issues facing families and society.
