Kimberly Hatch Harrison

Kimberly Hatch Harrison was born and raised in Pasadena, California—a place known for flowers in winter, elaborate parades, closet millionaires, and world-class educational institutions. Stubborn and ingenious, she refused to be broken by those same educational institutions that would tame her. A child prodigy, she taught herself to read somewhere around the age of 2½. She credits her mother for instilling her lifelong love of reading, which made everything else possible.

Kimberly attended (the now defunct) Pasadena Towne & Country School, the exclusive prep school Pasadena Polytechnic (formerly Throop Institute), and the uber-exclusive Caltech (also formerly Throop Institute). She earned bachelor’s degrees in Biology and English Literature from Caltech.

She continued her studies in Molecular Biology at Princeton, leaving grad school with a masters degree and ABD (all but dissertation) as a PhD candidate. After spending 16+ years doing science research, she came full-circle back to Pasadena to teach biology and chemistry at Polytechnic School, finally leaving in a blaze of glory to co-found Socratica with her tall, dark, and handsome husband.

Kimberly lives in Los Angeles.
