Ed Tobias

Ed Tobias is a retired Associated Press journalist who writes about two things he knows very well: his ham radio hobby and multiple sclerosis, the illness he lives with.

Tobias has been a "ham" (current call KR3E) since 1961 and he was diagnosed with MS in 1980. He shares his Morse code experiences in DITS and DAHS, which was updated in a second edition published in April, 2025. His experiences with MS are written about in The Multiple Sclerosis Toolbox. Both of these books are full of experience-based hints designed to help those who are new to the hobby or the disease, as well as those who are veterans.

Tobias spent over 30 years with The AP's broadcast division in Washington, DC following work in local radio in DC and suburban New York City. Despite his MS, Tobias has traveled to more than 15 countries across four continents and to most U.S. states. He and his wife, along with their Yorkie-poo and Maine Coon cat, divide their time between Maryland and Florida.
