Henry Holmes

Henry Holmes writes from his heart and most of the stories and characters are drawn from actual life challenges and experiences. He has held many leadership roles in his faith, as well as serving a full-time mission for two years. He feels a closeness to God, and has learned to trust Him through many difficult challenges. Because of his faith he has a sense for the spiritual nature of things. The years he spent working on the reservation heightened those feelings, while he worked with people who had such a deep history of spiritual lore. Friends and family continually request that he slow down, but his desire to drink up every drop life has to offer, keeps him going full throttle. Even in the sexagenarian portion of his life, he wants to experience so much more.

Henry married in his early twenties and within two months pulled up stakes and moved to New Mexico, with his very patient, new bride. He spent the next nine years working deep in the earth as a uranium miner. He and his wife, Kathy, would call New Mexico “home” for over forty-five years. During that time, while working a full-time job, he also owned and operated several businesses. He has five wonderful children and nineteen energetic grandchildren, who call him Popsa, a title that is worn with a smile, but has an origin that has long been forgotten.

He has always had the ability to quickly solve problems and find answers to challenges that have arisen in his life. His love for improvising and fixing difficulties eventually drove him to become a nurse, including a bachelor’s of Science, from the University of New Mexico. He was recruited to work with the Native American people, in a very remote part of the Navajo Reservation, because he couldn’t resist the challenge of working as a trauma nurse, in the Emergency Department. There he gained a new appreciation for life as he became intimately familiar with death. He worked for over 14 years in emergency room settings, receiving much appreciation from those he worked for, with and on. He continued his education and received a Masters in Business at the age of 40, just another testament of his ceaseless energy, hunger for learning and love for life.
