Susie Baggaley

It’s not every day that you come across an author who began her career in her late 60’s, but Susie did just that, while sailing the oceans with her husband. During those long night-watches, she decided to begin her own personal journey as an author, something she had longed to do throughout her life but never had time.

Sailing into the Greek Island of Symi, she witnessed, first-hand, the plight of young African refugees trying to escape the horrors of their homeland to find a better life in Europe, and her first novel was born.

DEAD RECKONING was published in 2015 under her pseudonym – Su Garcia.

This was no mean feat. Having left school at 16, with one ‘O’ level in English Literature, Susie knew she could never compete with the ‘young things’ fresh out of university with sparkling English degrees and a career in journalism! The publishing industry considered her to be too old/ too inexperienced and too big a gamble!

Did it put her off? – not a bit of it. She gritted her teeth, laughed off the criticism and following many years of cruising in the Caribbean, a new plot came to life and her 2nd novel,

RUM PUNCH followed.

Still the agents refused to see her potential. To them, she was not commercially viable, but two decades of running her own business, being blessed with a thick skin, and having a genuine belief in her own ability, this ‘Golden Girl’ just ploughed on regardless. If she couldn’t join them, she would compete with them.

BAGGATELLE PUBLISHERS LTD was the result!

‘You’re never too old to start’ – is Susie's mantra and, reverting to her married name - Susie Baggaley - the MAC series of novels was born.

Book 1 - CALL ME MAC - went live on digital bookshelves on New Year’s Day 2021

Book 2 - MAC's INDIA - was published in November 2021 to immediate acclaim.

Book 3 - GROWN MEN DON'T CRY - is the latest in the series.

Book 4 - MAC's DILEMMA - went live in Sept 2022
