David H. Harrison

David lectured at Sussex University from 1976 until 1996, since when he was at London Metropolitan University and the University of the South Pacific. In 2014 he became Professor of Tourism at Middlesex University. A sociologist/social anthropologist, he has spent thirty years writing about and carrying out research on international tourism and, in particular, its impacts on developing societies. He has carried out research on international tourism in the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. Author of the Sociology of Modernisation and Development in 1988, he subsequently edited numerous articles and edited books, most recently four volumes on Tourism and East and South East Asia (with Victor T King and J.S. Eades, 2020) and in 2020 he also produced a single-authored book of his own writing in 2020 (Tourism, Tradition and Culture, CAB International, 2020).
