My parents were both born in Mexico but met here in my hometown of San Antonio. Both were hard workers, and both had entrepreneurial spirits. My mother opened a beauty salon after completing her licensing program, and my father owned and operated a grocery store. I have worked since the age of 9 years old including cleaning at a barber shop and beauty parlor (as they were called). Also, I worked in construction since the age of 11 helping the family business. In that job, I performed many tasks ranging from framing for concrete driveways to using a jack-hammer to break up old concrete structures, and everything in-between. I joined the military after high school in order to support my young family, as I had become a teen parent. After completing basic training and specialized training, I was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. While serving as an enlisted soldier, I was awarded a Green to Gold Active Duty Scholarship and attended Prairie View A&M University in Houston. After commissioning as a second lieutenant, I pursued a graduate degree from Texas Woman’s University, and his Doctorate degree from Maryville University as a Jonas Veteran Scholar. After completing 8 years in the Army reserves, and in 2002, I returned home to San Antonio and founded Clinica del Norte Pediatrics PLLC. I have been instrumental in multiple start-up companies as a consultant, director, or as venture capitalist to include acquiring and developing commercial real estate properties. I am committed to serving the community and is involved in numerous boards including Managed Care Organizations, and Non-Profit Organizations that serve to promote community health, and quality healthcare for everyone including the indigent. I am the Chairman of the board for TYME to Empower, an organization that helps teen parents by empowering, not enabling them to strive for success in education and in their careers. I have worked diligently to be able to provide the best care to our families that call our practice their “medical home”. Similarly, I have worked hard all of my life to be able to provide the best care and love for my children which include Eduardo III who is thirty and has been in the Army for the past ten years. My three daughters are Mariel, 21 years of age and is a senior undergraduate student studying education, Sophia, 20 years old, and a junior undergraduate student majoring in biology, and Adriana, 18 years old, graduating high school this year with plans of joining the armed forces (like her pops and older brother). And the newest addition to our family, Greyson, 18 months old and growing fast. Like you, I am both nervous and excited at the thought of all that is ahead of us in terms of doing the best we can in our most important mission, job, career of all… Being a parent!
