Lisa Bentley

Lisa Bentley is an author, landlord, and wellbeing advocate.

Following the tragic loss of her husband in a motorbike accident, Lisa changed direction in her Psychology degree to focus on Creative Writing. She began writing children’s books in 2006 after her eldest son, who was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, came home from school upset about the way he looked.

Determined to help him build confidence and self-belief, she created her first picture book, Mindy Nose Best. Since then, she has written two further children’s books including Don’t Judge That Sludge! and Kitty Can’t. Kitty Can!, as well as How Shadow Found His Light – a picture book for teenagers and adults exploring depression, hope, and emotional healing. She has also created a variety of notebooks, journals, and wellbeing-themed creative resources. Lisa has been interviewed on BBC Radio Kent about her books, mental health advocacy, and the personal experiences that inspire her writing.

Alongside her creative work, Lisa has spent years navigating the ups and downs of property ownership as a landlord. Her recently released book, The First-Time Landlord, was originally written as a practical and honest guide for her two sons should anything ever happen to her. Designed especially for first-time and accidental landlords, it is a supportive “hold your hand” guide from the moment you receive your keys. Blending humour with real-life experience, the book offers a relatable look at the realities of being a landlord – from tenants and repairs to unexpected challenges, lessons learned, and surviving the chaos with your sanity intact.

Lisa is a qualified Life Coach, Hypnotherapist with Counselling Skills and Stress Consultant. She holds a BSc (Open) in Psychology and Creative Writing. She has also trained with the children’s mental health charity Place2Be.

Through all of her books and creative work, Lisa’s mission is simple: to help make the world inside each of us a kinder, calmer, and more beautiful place to live.
