Life is full of surprises.
St. Paul, Minnesota, was home, but one day I followed a few twists and turns and suddenly found myself wandering the world as a career diplomat. I learned and I explored over the next 35 years and I even had the honor to serve as an American Ambassador in Eritrea, Nepal, and Uganda.
Along the way there was adventure. Along the way there was the unexpected. Whether sitting in the midst of a Mountain Gorilla family, gliding through the Okavango Delta, or sipping tea as a peacock called to greet a misty morning, the world continuously proved to be more than a kid from St. Paul ever expected.
And one day, in a remote corner of the Himalayas, where the line between what we know and what we feel blurs, "The Ambassador's Dog" came to life.
It's a story to share, to read aloud, and to experience. I hope you will.
Today I am still engaged in the world. I am still engaged with Nepal, and I’m still engaged with the Ambassador's Dog. And that’s a pretty good place to be.
