I'm an anthropologist, former professor, and college provost, and current president of the National Association of Scholars. My books explore new American ideals, such as "diversity," the liberating "anger," sustainability, and anti-racism. I write from the perspective that older ideals displaced by these new concepts are often better guides to a good life and a worthy society.
