Scovia Rushing

Born in Sudan, Africa, Scovia Rushing has lived most of her life in Kenya, Nairobi, Uganda, Kampala, and now resides in Memphis, Tennessee. Growing up a Sudanese refugee, she has been exposed to different worldviews alongside different cultures.

In all of her life experiences, she believes that a positive attitude is the most important trait to have and keep on a daily basis. A positive attitude simply keeps her going. It alone sparks her passion. When her attitude is right, she believes that there is no dream too extreme and no challenge too great for her to accomplish.

A simple phrase she lives by is “Haraka Haina Baraka.” It is a phrase in Swahili meaning “rushing does not mean one receives blessings,” and when said backwards, “Baraka Haina Haraka” simply means “to receive blessings, one can not rush.” She values hard work and strives to be a light, a smile, and a miracle.
