Ellen Shane

Formerly from Montreal, Canada, I now live in Los Angeles. The inspiration for the book "Emily's Gift: The True Story of Sherlock and Jackson" came to me in a dream, two years following the tragic murder of our youngest child, Emily, at the age of 13 in April 2010. I have many stories to share about the dogs! This is the first in a series about them. In addition to writing, most of my time is dedicated to my work as the Executive Director of The Emily Shane Foundation, a nonprofit providing educational support to disadvantaged children in the mainstream, middle school classroom who risk academic failure. Our SEA (Successful Educational Achievement) Program operates at sites across Los Angeles and Ventura counties and has served close to 800 students since it began in the spring of 2012. I also see clients privately for grief support. I am a proud mother of two older daughters and have been married for 34 years to my wonderful husband, Michel.
