Carey Westbrook was born and raised in Chicago. As a child he followed his mother to weddings and funerals where she would recite her poems and sell cakes. He went to Boulder Colorado and studied with beatnik Allen Ginsberg in the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics of Naropa University to become a great poet and renaissance man. It was there that Westbrook learned through meditation the power of a poet's soul and a writer's heart. He was named the Ritz Colorado Cracker Snacker for most outstanding original recipe and presentation of a Ritz Cracker Snack and awarded his cracker award in Boise Idaho by the late great Ed McMahon.

Westbrook has served as a script consultant for Academy Award winner Derek Cianfrance and Academy Award nominee George Tillman Jr. who produced America's best movie on motherhood, SOUL FOOD. Westbrook is the star of numerous primetime TV game shows and he has appeared in many feature films, like Strangeland, Blue Valentine, Who Wants To Be a Superhero, Dance Machine, Race To Escape, and many more. He is the host of the hit webisode series Rate My Weeknight. He is also the creator of The L.A. Neo Noir Novel, Film, and Script Festival, hailed by L.A. Weekly as the festival with "the world's sexiest, darkest, crime short films."

Westbrook has taught and tutored creative writing and comic strips all over the country and as a self syndicated comic strip creator, he and his comics have been featured on numerous primetime TV shows like Worst Bakers of America, Jerry Springer's Baggage, and Stan Lee's Who Wants To Be a Superhero. His comic strips have been featured in many newspapers like The Urban Spectrum, Body of Christ News, The Revolutionary Worker, Interrace, and many more.

When Westbrook's mother passed away, he remembered the many poems she had written, the many cakes she had made, and he realized in his own quirky way, his whole life's trajectory was inspired by watching his mom. That's why he made his book, Mom: Her Life Story. Her Own Words. A Guided Journal To Make The Movie of Mom's Life! That's why he made the festival, The USA Mother's Day Festival, so people who used his book would have a venue to tell their stories and share with the world of people who loved their mother like Westbrook loved his mom.
