Debashish Majumdar

Debashish Majumdar, multi-awarded writer (fiction & non-fiction) from Kolkata, India. An SCBWI (PAL member) he's been published by Pauline Book & Media, Chicken Soup, Scholastic, Children's Book Trust, National Book Trust (India). He's also a Life Member, AWIC-IBBY.

A children's literacy advocate, the winner of 15 celebrated national writing awards. His literary works appear in 21 traditionally published books to date. He has won accolades from AWIC-IBBY, Children's Book Trust among others. One of his most recent picture books, 'Fooled You!' has been awarded the Best of Indian Children's Writing Award (Picture Book Category, 2019).

He was appointed National Jury by Scholastic India for their prestigious Scholastic Annual School Writing Awards. He relishes writing curated, compelling Board Books (0-3 years), Early Picture Books(3-6 years) read-aloud picture books(4-8 years), Fiction for early readers, MG fiction. His published works include 5 picture books from reputable literary stables.

He writes prolifically--over 250 stories for children has appeared in all forms of media--in leading newspaper dailies such as The Times of India, The Indian Express,The Telegraph, The Statesman, Deccan Herald, The Independent, The Hindu among others..

A highly popular author in the Indian sub-continent, he wrote hundreds of stories for kids in magazines like Tinkle, Magic Pot, Chnadamama, Dimdima, Champak, Children's World -- to name a few. His works has been translated into 14 regional languages.

His adult fiction short story, 'Kamala' was shortlisted for a Commonwealth Prize in 2003. His articles has appeared in the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series. His picture books published by the National Book Trust, India shares space in the series with world renowned authors like Nobel Prize winner, Rabindranath Nath Tagore and Oscar award-winning film maker/ writer for kids, Satyajit Ray.

A marketing graduate from the prestigious business school,The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK his early life is inspired by the Irish Christian Brothers, (St. Edmund's School) with their headquarters at Dublin.
