Mr Andrew M Colley

Hi I'm Andy

I have been writing technical documentation as part of my career, but now I have turned to writing for pleasure and can’t stop. I write fiction and normally fantasy, although I have been working on a book about Kibbutzim in the 1980s, it's the story of my life as a volunteer in Israel. It is still a work in progress but it will be factual and accurate.

I’m from Staffordshire England; a small mining community and I remember tubs of coal crossing the main road while we waited. My earliest influence was my paternal grandmother Lilian Martha Colley, who used to sit grandchildren around her coal fire while she told us stories. When I grew older, I realised she was telling us about her own life, working in a cotton mill and later as a maid in a large house. There’s another book there but I have some research to do to be as accurate as possible.

I have two books in a series published using the amazing Kindle Publishing software, and my husband Rafael has designed all my book covers. GIIN (The last remaining Genie in the human world) is a modern-day story about a Genie and the family he lives with. The adventures they had inspired me to write the sequel and GIIN 2 (The curse of Ibliis). (PS I've even started on GIIN Book 3)

I have also written a children's fantasy book called Dragon Wishes. It's about two boys who help a dragon and she gives them both a wish on their sixteenth birthday. During the years running up to their birthdays they have dreams that include a wish and quickly learn that they need to be careful about what they wish for. The artwork for the cover is from watercolour painting produced by my talented sister Jan Jones. My husband Rafael turned it into another successful cover.

Most recently I have completed a dystopian fantasy called Bitter Harvest. It describes a situation where the world is contaminated by genetically modified pollen from rapeseed plants. The pollen has the effect or rendering human males sterile and by the time it has been discovered there is a worldwide problem. The story focusses on a group of scientists who are racing against time to find a cure and save the human race from becoming extinct.

I have a number of free short stories posted on my website www.andrewmcolley.com, I hope you have a chance to read some.

During the last year I set myself a challenge to try and make people laugh. The pandemic was difficult for everyone and I just wanted to post something funny every day for a year. You can find ANDREW M COLLEY on Instagram and I hope you enjoy reading some of my daft poems if you do. At some stage I will put them in a book and publish them together.
