Barbara J. Smith

Driven by a passion to help young people and engaged educators be prepared for everything, Barbara Smith uses her experiences in public, charter, international, and independent schools to inform her research, writing and professional practice. Smith has worked in K to 12 schools and in three universities in Canada, the US and in Europe. Smith has opened three new schools and has published many curriculum materials as well as A Charter School Principal's Story, about her challenging work as a principal of a DC performing arts school. Her next book, How Much does a Great School Cost? opens with a message from Joe Biden: "Show me your budget, and I will tell you what you value". With over 40 years in education and a PhD in curriculum and instruction, Smith offers a rich assortment of innovative ways to design schools and learning.
