Doug Richards

A one-mile run in my early thirties sent me on a journey I could never have dreamt of at the time. Forty years later, I’m still running, albeit somewhat slower. What started as a keep-fit fad has taken me all over the world, from the heat of the Sahara and Gobi Deserts to the bitter cold of Siberia, Greenland and Antarctica. I have now run at least a half marathon on each of the planet’s seven continents, but it hasn’t always been plain-sailing. Life gets in the way; family issues, health, both physical and mental, all erect barriers that have to be navigated around. You will not find tips in my books on how to become a super athlete. What I hope you will find is some inspiration from a middle of the pack runner on how, by pushing your comfort zone to its very limit and beyond, you can achieve dreams from your pastime beyond anything you could ever have imagined.
