Dr Andrew J. Brough

Dr Andrew J. Brough is an international Leadership and Organisational Development consultant and Chartered Marketer. He is also the founder of the Brough Leadership Institute based outside Knysna, South Africa. As a facilitator, lecturer, broadcaster and keynote speaker, Andy has more than 25 years of wide–ranging professional experience. Andy is an Executive Education specialist in Strategy, Sales & Marketing, Leadership, Teams & Corporate Reputation.

Andy consults for many international blue-chip companies and speaks on issues pertaining to strategy, team and people development. His international facilitation experience means he brings a professional understanding to issues around strategic foresight, diversity, teamwork, leadership, and sales & marketing. Andy has a Master’s degree in Organisational Leadership and a (Ph.D) in Business Management with a specialization in Leadership and Corporate Reputation. He has facilitated over 3500 programmes to audiences in more than 80 countries. He is also an experienced conference moderator and has worked in the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors. He is also the author of the book, “Leadership: The Exponential Effect."

Professional Background:

Andy has delivered a wide variety of Company Specific Programmes throughout South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, and as far afield as Australia, Brazil, England, Germany, Malaysia, the Middle East, Panama, Poland, and the USA. As a big picture-bottom line thinker, Andy facilitates around both personal and organisational development. Andy has lectured for the Graduate School of Marketing, the Rhodes Investec Business School and has been part of the external faculty of the Gordon Institute of Business Science (University of Pretoria) since 2008. Between 2016 and 2019, he taught “Leading in a Dynamic Era” and “Managing the Globally Diverse Firm” on the Monash SA MBA programme.

Andy has worked extensively in broadcast and online media and writes and presents targeted educational programmes for corporate clients. He is also a specialist in virtual classroom delivery and facilitation and presents extensively on Leading Virtual teams, Partnering Across Culture and developing Cultural Intelligence.

Philosophy and Approach:

Andy works to help learners understand how an individual’s values and beliefs influences attitudes that shape behaviour, potential team effectiveness and ultimately, business results and reputation. He prides himself on using a principled-based approach to training by demonstrating transfer of skills in an “applied-learning” context. Andy has run numerous action learning projects to underpin is executive leadership programmes. He has acted as supervisor/external examiner for both masters and PhD students.
