AT Richens

Born in Surrey, England, Andrew Richens developed a fascination with the cosmos from an early age — a passion that would go on to shape both his academic and creative journeys. He earned a degree in Astronomy and Planetary Science before serving with distinction in the British Armed Forces, where exposure to high-pressure environments and global perspectives left a lasting impact on his worldview.

Following military service, he embarked on a long and meaningful career in Emergency Response, helping safeguard the United Kingdom against natural, accidental and malicious incidents. This work — grounded in real-world risk and resilience — continues to inform the psychological and procedural authenticity behind his fictional settings.

An elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, Andrew is a lifelong advocate for scientific literacy and public engagement. He has taught astronomy and physics at college level, and continues to inspire curiosity through public talks and outreach.

By night, he turns his gaze skyward as a dedicated astrophotographer, capturing the haunting beauty of galaxies, nebulae, and planets from the dark rural skies of Lincolnshire. It is here he lives with his wife and two young children — and where he writes stories that explore the fragile boundary between science and horror, the known and the unknowable.

The Starlight Demon is his debut novel.
