Jeff Nyce

Jeff Nyce is a former member of the Montgomery County, Maryland, Department of Police, Special Weapons and Tactics Team, known as SWAT. In his many years in SWAT, he participated in approximately 4,500 tactical operations, including the take-down of the DC snipers, the Discovery headquarters suicide bomber hostage rescue incident, and the capture of a violent group of serial bank robbers featured on America’s Most Wanted.

He served as an operator, team leader, and commander. His thirty years in SWAT was the longest in the history of the team. He was struck down at the height of his career by two diseases deemed terminal at the time. Despite coding during a stem-cell transplant in 2013 and suffering a stroke in 2015, he has persevered. Nine years post-diagnosis, he is in remission and by all medical accounts has defied the odds. This is the story of how his years in SWAT prepared him for the greatest fight of his life.

It is his hope that by sharing many lessons learned and the medical odyssey that followed, he can help others manage their illnesses and improve their quality of life. Jeff proudly served the Montgomery County Department of Police, Maryland, from 1981-2014.
