Walter Swaim, Ph.D., was born and raised in the Miami area of south Florida. Though growing up in church most of his life, it was at his first summer youth camp in 1979 he responded to the Good News of Jesus Christ by believing in Him as his Lord and Savior. From that moment on, his life was changed forever.
Though he originally had plans to do otherwise Walter sensed a deep desire, a calling, to go into vocational ministry and obeyed that call. While attending Baptist Bible College (now Missions University) in Springfield, Missouri he sensed God’s direction to be a missionary in Argentina and shortly afterward married the love of his life, Denise (McDougald) Swaim.
For 40 years, he and his wife have served in ministry as missionaries and church planters in Argentina and Florida, then pastored in the Houston, Texas area for 18 years. He is now the Academic Dean at Louisiana Baptist University, his alma mater.
Walter also has served as a chaplain for the Hollywood, Florida and La Porte, TX police departments. He also served for 15 years as a corporate chaplain. He is the founder of the bilingual discipleship ministry and podcast called "Truth Unbound" and "Verdad Sin Límites."
Walter has attained both a M.Div. and Ph.D. from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary, specializing in apologetics. He and his wife of 40 years reside in East Texas and have 3 wonderful grown children and seven amazing grandchildren. Walt loves enjoying time with his family, fishing, golfing, sports (especially World Cup Soccer), reading, seeing historic sites, the occasional video game, and is a ham radio hobbyist as well. His favorite Scriptures are John 15:4-5 where Christ simply said, “Abide in Me.”
