Reading, reading aloud and telling stories, like listening, have been moments of happiness in our lives since our early childhood. Even though we know that everything passes and nothing remains, we still want to hold on to it. The only way we can do this is through our memories.

Because only what is described remains; everything else disappears into oblivion. Our chance as "storytellers" is that we find words that - even if they are centuries-old stories - entice us to experience them, that we draw readers into what has driven us as humans since time immemorial, what speaks to our deepest longing and grabs us in such a way that we use our imagination to break out of the usual circle of everyday life and let life surprise us anew.

Historical novels and the search for traces of our roots inspire me. History, integrated into personal destinies, comes to life when you read. When I write, dialogues arise with my protagonists even in my dreams and an understanding begins that makes me forget any moral pointing finger.

Memories are time travel into the past and into the future. They determine how creatively we shape our future. They encourage you to turn the old order, the way of the world upside down, to take a different perspective in order to see things in a new way. Understanding that we stand on the shoulders of the generation before us encourages us to develop sturdy shoulders for the next, who can look further on our shoulders, serve evolution and, above all, develop a consciousness that prevents a repetition of tragic historical events .

Writing is ultimately a struggle to express the essence of life in my own words: “What we hold in our hands at the end of our lives is not our achievements and our works. We will first and foremost ask ourselves the question of how much we have loved.” ZEN Master Willigis Jäger
