Kurt R. Bell is a nationally known railroad historian, archivist and museum professional. Formerly Librarian/Archivist at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, Kurt has authored two books and over 60 articles on railroad heritage, technology, social history and preservation. His articles have appeared in Railroad History, The NRHS Bulletin, the Journal of Transport History and History News (AASLH). He has also worked for a half dozen steam railroads in the eastern United States since 1985 as a Conductor, Brakeman and Fireman and has appeared on or supplied research content to documentaries that have aired on PBS, National Public Radio, The History Channel, The USA Network, CBS Sunday Morning, Kalmbach Media and Time-Warner Video. He has been quoted in the Washington Post and the New York Times. He often gives lectures/public talks on various aspects of railroad history and preservation and has curated numerous public history exhibitions on railroads. Kurt is currently an Archivist who works in State Government with Public and Historical Records, and continues to keep active in steam railroading.
