After they retired, Dirk and Deb moved from Seymour, WI to Oshkosh, WI where they now live on Lake Winnebago. During their 30+ years working with children and adults there always seemed to be stories, but never time to write those stories down. Retirement is providing that time. While teaching first grade, Deb saw first-hand how rhyme and rhythm can help children unlock the reading code. Dirk has always been drawn to stories with “fantastical” creatures and believes they can help guide the behavioral choices children make. With these ideas in mind, and drawing on their personal experiences, Deb and Dirk set out to write a story that was both fanciful and relatable. Combined with Kelly Lane’s engaging illustrations, Deb and Dirk hope McKinley and the Present Pixies will find a place on your holiday bookshelf and become part of your family's holiday traditions.
