Dimitris G. ASSIMAKOPOULOS

PROFESSOR OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION MANAGEMENT

Dimitris Assimakopoulos is Full Professor at EM Lyon and Founding Director of EML Global DBA. He is also President of the EDAMBA (European Doctoral programs Association in Management and Business Administration), Member of the Faculty of the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), expert and Member of the Committee of the EFMD European Quality Link (EQUAL). Before joining EMLYON as Full Professor, he worked as Professor, Associate Dean in charge of research and Director of the DBA Program at Grenoble École de Management (GEM). Trained in Greece, the United Kingdom, France and the United States, he is qualified in civil engineering, architecture, land use planning and economic sociology. His research focuses more specifically on the management of collaborative networks around technological and organizational innovation, the development of technological communities and the emergence of industrial ecosystems based on the knowledge economy. Dimitris has led or participated in multi-million euro projects with international organizations such as CERN, Fraunhofer ISI, STMicroelectronics or the Airbus group. He was PhD Student Researcher and Principal Investigator in the “Marie-Curie” program funded by the European Commission, visiting professor of Sociology at the Asia Pacific Research Center of Stanford University, as well as in several universities in the United Kingdom and in China. He has published numerous books, chapters, project reports and articles in scientific and professional journals.

His teaching specialties are varied, from Business Geography (Geographic Information Systems / Management Information Systems), then more recently on research design and qualitative and quantitative methods. He has supervised 15 Doctoral and Doctoral theses in Business Administration (DBA) and launched the EDEN Doctoral Seminar on Social Network Analysis in collaboration with colleagues at Bocconi University, UC London and MIT Sloan.

2010 –2011: Principal Investigator Award from GEM LINC Lab for the 'Hadron Accelerators for Health' project (total budget 15K €), in collaboration with the University of Virginia (USA), with the support of the CERN HEP technology transfer network (High Energy Physics) and the technology transfer agency GSI (German Heavy Ion research lab), research on how the HEP community has developed innovative treatments for cancers deemed incurable, thanks to the transfer of technologies related to radiography and in oncology (at the origin of the CERN Collaboration Spotting platform: http://collspotting.web.cern.ch/).

2006 - 2009: Principal Investigator Award from GEM LINC Lab and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the MATRI project 'Method for Anticipation of Industrial Transformations', funded by the EC DG Employment and Social Affairs (total budget 1.8M €), in partnership with STMicroelectronics, INPG, CAPGEMINI and the Confédération Française de l'Encadrement (France); ISTUD, Politecnico di Torino and Confederazione Italiana Dirigenti (Italy); the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation research (ISI); Henley Management College; and the European Confederation of Managers.

2002 - 2004: Senior Researcher Award awarded by GEM, for the MEDFORIST project 'Euro-Mediterranean Network for sharing IST learning resources' (total budget 2.1M €), within the framework of the EUMEDIS initiative: development of a course in e-commerce more particularly oriented e-travel / e-tourism
