Mayank Mishra

Mayank Mishra is an adult who quits his job at the University of Delhi to further his education. Once again become a student and gaining his Ph.D. A difficult feat in itself turned so much more intricate upon the addition of him continuing his education in a completely different country. Mayank must adjust to differences in things he had not even fathomed prior to his journey such as different road regulations, living conditions, traditions, and so much more. Each chapter of his life is depicted and organized; each milestone dependent on the year in which it happens. As you read you grow with his character and immerse yourself into adjusting to a new environment as he does. Following through his first year within a dorming and experiencing different foods, fashions, and places. Followed by his second year of getting an apartment room and creating lasting friendships, whilst finding himself and his hobbies. All while still being homesick, yet adjusting within his new home of Italy. You feel reality hit him as your shown and that not everything is perfect as Mayank’s loneliness and self-doubt settles in. This journal ultimately assisting the reader in acknowledging what lays before that them when deciding to further their education to get a doctorate degree. Depicting that despite the culture shock, language barrier, and unimaginable stress; determination and the knowledge that he could be bettering and saving lives made it all worthwhile.
