Pam Ostrowski

I remember when Mom first started showing regular signs of dementia. She had anxiety and struggled to find the right words for every day, familiar items. My dad thought it was just normal aging but I knew better. She was struggling and it broke my heart.

I had many questions. How do I get my dad to see that mom was struggling with day to day tasks, like taking her medications properly, cooking, finding her keys, and reading a menu. Could they continue to live alone? Would it be better to be around more stimulation and engagement and have access to caregivers and nurses, if she needed them? How would we justify the cost of care? Month after month, year after year, I learned the answers to my questions.

When our journey was over, I made it my passion to write down the questions I had with the answers I found. That's what "It's Not That Simple" is about - because this dementia journey is not simple. It requires a compass and a guide. There is SO much information available that it's hard to sift through and know what applies to your situation. That's why I wrote this dementia caregivers guidebook.

I hope that you find this book helpful. I’m not a medical or legal professional, just a daughter who was on the Alzheimer’s journey with her mom,, who made mistakes, has regrets, and wants to share the answers I've found.

You are not alone in your frustration, sadness, grief, overwhelm, or any of the other emotions that come with this dementia journey.

I wish I had someone with my knowledge today to talk with when I was going through those 14 years with my mom. Let's face it. Communicating can be a challenge with any human. Add in cognitive impairment and you're on an emotional rollercoaster and not sure when it will end.

Through my company, Alzheimer's Family Consulting, I now work directly with families to provide a path through these difficult conversations, help them navigate the many processes, decisions, and emotions, and make sure that everything that is needed is in place. My mission and purpose are to help those on the dementia/Alzheimer’s journey get prepared now as much as they can for the future. Let's walk this path together. I've got you.

At your service as your dementia guide
