Liz Ciufo

Liz Ciufo is an award-winning author who delights in telling stories based on real-life events and experiences. She is currently working on a children's series called "Better with Betsy," which tells the story of growing up on a farm in rural southwestern Colorado.

She has published three books. Two are children's books titled Skip's Dog, Lola, and Jessica's Dog, Cody (2026 winner of the International Impact Book Award for children's nonfiction). Both books chronicle her daughter Jessica's volunteer experiences with two dog-related non-profits and teach kids that no matter how young they are, they can make a difference in their world. Her third book is a military memoir titled A Shoe in the Sand - A Look Behind for the Journey Ahead. It is an inside look at her time as a Military Intelligence Officer in the Persian Gulf War, based on an original journal she wrote while deployed in 1990 - 1991. It is a 2024 winner of the International Impact Book Award for Military Memoir.

Liz was born in California in the early 1960's but grew up primarily in a small town in southwestern Colorado. She is a graduate of Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO, with a bachelor’s degree in education, and a graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI, with a master’s degree in education.

Liz served in the US Army, US Army Reserve, and US Air Force Reserve, respectively, from 1984 - 2005. She is a former Army paratrooper, Desert Storm combat veteran, and a retired Major. She currently resides in Las Vegas with her young adult children who are pursuing careers in circus arts.

Liz loves hiking, providing hospitality to friends and family, spending time with her children, reading, crafting, and writing.
