I'm Asekho Toto, a writer, poet, author, and student, navigating the complexities of life with depression and anxiety as my constant companions. While my expertise doesn't lie in formal mental health training, writing has become my sanctuary—a space where I can delve into my emotions, process my experiences, and find solace in the power of words.

My journey with depression and anxiety began years ago, casting a shadow over my daily life. The darkness of depression drained my energy and motivation, while anxiety gnawed at my insides, fueling constant worry and fear. I often felt isolated and misunderstood, trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts and emotions.

In the midst of this struggle, I turned to writing as a lifeline. Pouring my heart onto the page allowed me to release the pent-up emotions that threatened to consume me. Words became my allies, enabling me to express the pain, fear, and uncertainty that I couldn't otherwise articulate.

Through writing, I began to understand my experiences better. I discovered patterns in my thoughts and behaviors, recognizing the triggers that fueled my anxiety and the negative thought spirals that deepened my depression. Writing became a form of self-reflection, a way to untangle the complexities of my inner world.

But writing wasn't just about introspection; it was also about finding hope and healing. Exploring different genres and styles revealed the transformative power of storytelling. I wrote about characters who faced similar challenges, finding strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Their stories inspired me, reminding me that even in the darkest moments, there is always light to be found.

Through writing, I learned to cope with my mental health challenges. I developed strategies for managing anxiety, such as deep breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques. I learned to challenge negative thoughts and replace them with more positive ones. Most importantly, I discovered the importance of self-compassion and acceptance.

My writing journey led me to the Mental Matters podcast, a platform for open conversations about mental health, hosted by myself. This podcast has become an invaluable resource, providing expert advice and personal stories of hope and recovery.

Through the Mental Matters podcast, I have learned about different approaches to therapy, coping mechanisms for managing stress and anxiety, and the importance of building resilience. I have also been inspired by the stories of others who have overcome their own mental health challenges.

The Mental Matters podcast has created a sense of community for me, connecting me with others who understand my struggles and offer support and encouragement. This sense of belonging has been crucial in my journey towards healing.

This blog is for anyone suffering from depression or anxiety. If you are feeling lost, alone, or overwhelmed, know that you are not alone. There is help available, and there is hope for recovery. Writing and community can be powerful tools on your journey to healing.
