Dan McCrory’s first book, Capitalism Killed the Middle Class: 25 Ways the System is Rigged Against You, is part memoir, part history lesson, part cautionary tale. It was a finalist in the UK’s Page Turner Awards. Dan books were presented at the Taipei Book Exhibition in February and here in LA at the LA Times Festival of Books in April. He published his first novel, You Will Forever Be My Always, to raise awareness about Parkinson’s Disease. The book was a winner in the 2022 Los Angeles Book Festival and has achieved a reputation as a very funny approach to a very serious subject. The book trailer has been seen by over 81,000 viewers. Dan is publishing his latest novel, Worst Case Scenario: Election Night, in which Adolf Wallace rigs the election and declares martial law. Native Americans decide to take their country back. He is currently wrapping up Leonard Comes Home, a book that looks at Native American Leonard Peltier’s 1977 conviction in the deaths of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge reservation. Dan is also working with two other playwrights on Maryjane’s Musical Journey, a history of pot, its influence on culture, and the eventual drive for legalization.
McCrory was published in the 2020 anthology of California’s Best Emerging Poets. Two of his scripts reached quarter-finalist status in the NYC International Screenplay Awards. He has written for the glamorous telecom industry, has been a Hollywood publicist, has written political propaganda and advertising copy (yes, there is a difference), and has edited four books. Dan is active in the National Writers Union, formerly as an officer and now as co-chair of the book division. He also volunteers with public radio station KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles as lead producer for the labor program, Working Voices and serves as Chair of the station’s Community Advisory Board. He lives in Southern California.
