Simon Scardanelli

Simon Scardanelli is an English singer-songwriter, composer and author who now lives in Central Brittany, France. He has been recording and releasing records since the 80s - enjoying chart success in the late 80s with Anglo-Canadian duo "Big Bam Boo", with a top 40 hit in the USA & Canada in March 1989 - "Shooting From My Heart".

The duo re-located to New York from London in February 1991 to record a second album. Following the demise of the band at the end of that year, having been dropped by their record label MCA, Simon remained in New York, playing solo concerts with his decidedly un-commercial and rather strange Super-8 film & live music show "The Eye Camera". He scraped a living working in the underbelly of New York’s Lower East Side - including a stint as a liquor runner at the infamous "Save The Robots" after-hours club. His broodily challenging album "Death Row Tales" (1994) bears testament to the dark & dangerous lifestyle he was living on 4th Street & Ave D - Alphabet City.

"Death Row Tales" has since become a cult album (and highly collectible - only 1000 CDs were pressed) after it was discovered that the CGI programmers of The Matrix films were caning it during long rendering sessions.

A mini-album, "Bed of Nails", came in 2002 and the album "Hobohemia" followed in 2005, coinciding with his return to live performances after an eleven year absence. The epic production "That Dangerous Sparkle" was released in 2007 and firmly established Simon’s reputation as an innovative and inventive songwriter. Since then he has released “Dark Dog Days” (2012), Make Us Happy (2016) & “The Rock, the Sea, the Rising Tide” (2019) as well as various EPs & singles, and is currently at work on a folk-opera, to be staged in 2021. Simon has also composed the music for several stage plays, as well as the music for "Clean - the Musical" (book & lyrics by Sam Chittenden) which will premier at Brighton Fringe in 2021.

A charismatic and engaging solo performer, Simon's shows are peppered with wry anecdotes and dry, self-deprecating humour – he is able to look back on a long and varied career with an ironic appreciation of its highs and lows. Tales of life on the margins of rock and roll, the wild and crazy unpredictability of living in New York’s Lower East Side, and his meeting with an alien back in the 70s entertain and amuse his audiences.

Simon is now putting some of these rich life experiences to paper. Some in the form of notes and commentary in his first songbook "Words & Music - Volume 1".

In June 2021 "Clean - the Musical" debuted at Brighton Fringe. With book & lyrics by Sam Chittenden, music by Simon Scardanelli, the musical won the "Outstanding Production" award and received 5 star reviews, as well as standing ovations for every performance. The full score is now available in paperback and Kindle versions here on Amazon.
