James Powell

James Powell is a professional engineer in Ontario, Canada, and has specialized in communication systems (HART, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP). He has over 20 years of experience with HART and PROFIBUS and over 25 years with Industrial Ethernet. James has worked in field service, large project engineering, and marketing with links to R&D.

He has been involved in many HART projects implementing HART in the field and specifying and testing new HART devices. Teaching has always been part of his working life and is one of his passions. He has taught in China, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, USA, Canada, UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

James owns and operates JCOM Automation Inc. in Peterborough, Ontario. JCOM Automation is a training company and a distributor for many great network related items.

James co-authored 'Catching the Process Fieldbus - an introduction to PROFIBUS and PROFINET' and authored 'HART Communication Protocol - A Practical Guide.' Both books have James's trademarked sense of humour with personal stories intermixed with technical details. The stories add a personal perspective and put a smile on many a reader.
