Several generations ago I wrote articles for six different Science Fiction magazines. During this period I went to World Science Fiction Conventions and a Horror/Fantasy Convention or two, where I got advice from Harlan Elison, Ann McCaffrey, and Stephen King. Just to drop a few of the wonderful people's names that a fledgling author could meet and talk to informally back in the day.
I went to Writing Conventions, where Zoe Sharp gave me some great tips as well. That decade I ghosted from the shadows relearning old skills.
I was lucky to write under the tutorial wing of Algis Budres during his 2 years at the Barrington P.L.
Time skewed life with a runaway horse and a roof collapse that left me a bit fuzzy, ultimately in a wheelchair, blind in one eye, and loosing about ten years' worth of memories. I do remember giving birth to my son and making new memories. (Everything is fodder for stories...the horse owes me and the raccoons in the ceiling for that matter.)
Luckily, my previous writing was handwritten, on print outs, or 3" disks. I have managed to crawl out of a depressive hole to begin editing and rewriting while writing new stories as well.
2020 brought an award for my short story 'FEAR" https://libguides.waukeganpl.org/October-Bradbury-WC?fbclid=IwAR2poUya-wv0M6G4Qjk01FnwXsoz9dbzMVsQg_kqa8jHkn-CU6iUb4-g_tY
