Mark Oppenheimer

Mark Oppenheimer is a practicing advocate. He has represented news media threatened by defamation suits, individuals that were wrongfully arrested by the police and civil rights organisations battling the government.

He frequently appears on television to discuss the bill of rights and the rule of law. Mark has authored submissions to the South African Parliament on Hate Speech legislation Bill and to the UN Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on escalating racial tensions. He recently presented an oral submission to Parliament on the topic of land confiscation.

He co-hosts the philosophy podcast Brain in a Vat with Dr Jason Werbeloff. Their latest book, Lockdown: Did Government Do the Right Thing? is about the Covid-19 pandemic
