Azmat Ashraf

Azmat Ashraf, a life long refugee who has been caught up on the wrong side in conflict zones twice, lost family members and was forced to flee. After traveling the globe in search of a home for nearly fifty years, he has finally settled down with his family in Ontario, Canada. His book REFUGEE is primarily a memoir of his journey and a story of survival of his family and friends in his community.

A graduate of University College London (UK) and an MBA from University of Bradford (UK), Azmat is a retired banker and consultant who has worked and lived in several countries. His goal now is to dedicate the remainder of his life towards promoting tolerance and goodwill between communities as a means to helping those still being persecuted and forced to flee. Successful assimilation in their adopted homes would naturally be a win win for the refugees as well as the host communities wherever they may be.

A student of history who believes that all societies have inbuilt capacity to co-exist and absorb diversity if it is achieved through shared goals. It is also possible to identify signs of any stress early enough, before it builds up into ethnic or religious discord or worse...hatred. More importantly such challenges can be easily handled by all modern states through prudent engagement of communities.
