Julius A. Austin

Dr. Julius A. Austin is a former collegiate and professional soccer player who earned an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Wyoming. Dr. Austin has been in the helping profession for 10+ years, serving as a clinician and educator. He currently serves as a Clinical Director of a community-based private practice in Louisiana and a full-time Faculty member in the Counseling Program at Grand Canyon University. His research focuses on counselor development and training. He is also the co-author of the books (1) Counselor Self-Care, (2) Surviving and Thriving in your Counseling Program, and (3) The Counselor Educator’s Guide: Practical In-Class Strategies and Activities. His counselor identity centers on helping individuals gain freedom and responsibility for their choices by empowering them to become aware of the self, environment, and the relationship between the two. He creates an atmosphere of genuineness, trust, humor, respect, and spontaneity in relationships.
