Correnna Bell Polk was born in Hillsboro, Texas and grew up in Grandview, Texas where she attended her early school years. At the age of eighteen, she married Charlie Mathis Junior form Itasca, Texas. To their union were born two children: Charles Etta Mathis, who died at an early age, and Charles Ray Mathis. After the death of her first husband, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas and remarried Reverend Virgil Polk. While living in Fort Worth, she worked as a domestic work and supported her husband's ministry. Ms. Polk had a heart for children and, along with raising her own, raised a host of nieces, nephews and other children she "adopted" along the way. She died in 2018 after an unexpected illness and leaves this book as part of her legacy to her family and the children of the world.
