Malcolm Giles

I write stories that merge experiences from my life with my imagination. My first novel, When Clouds Appear as Mountains, while a work of fiction, draws heavily from my experiences as a 19-year-old weirdo and found myself living a life that seemed more like an allegory than actual life. At the time, I was fascinated with the Roman numeral for 19, XIX. It is a palindrome and was a year where I lived in between deeply different lifestyles, and this place between places felt embedded in XIX. It took ten years to write the story, but to be fair, I started and restarted it on and off for years, and the version which I settled on truly began to take shape in 2017. Because this is a self-edited work, I took several months off in between drafts in order to edit with fresh eyes. In that time, I created the first drafts of a number of other works which I hope to reveal soon.
