Alan Mackenzie took a degree in modern languages at St John’s College, Cambridge. In 1972 he joined the postgraduate opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where he studied singing with Arthur Reckless. He joined the Civil Service in 1974 and having served with the Ministry of Defense in London and Germany and with the Foreign Office in Brussels, he then worked in Belgium for NATO for some 30 years until retirement to the UK in 2018. He continues his interest in theatre and singing with local amateur theatre groups and concerts while writing. In 2020 he published a collection of short stories (Short Stories from Lockdown) with his friend Richard Clifton. His first novel - Something to Kill For, a political thriller - was published in 2021. His second - The Berlin Palimpsest - a fairy tale thriller, was published in March 2022. This was followed by Death of an Oligarch in March 2023 and the Morsham Murders in 2024. Project Aurora was published in March 2026 and is his fifth thriller.
