Daniel G Hickey

After the quirky blessing of being formed in a family who served artfully as Southern Baptist missionaries in Brazil, the author Daniel Hickey has had a funky-fun life with five careers that were on the edge of adventure and sometimes falling right off. After a higher education involving a B.A. in History and a Masters of Divinity(Theology) he fell into 20 years of Campus Ministry, the fortuitous path to founding Transformational Journeys, a reverse mission travel company. This was the closest thing to the joy of making the world one, taking North American gringos all over the hemisphere to serve and celebrate more than they ever imagined.

His passion for Intercultural Education (Teaching people how to cross cultures, if only to reach out to folks who are different across the street) led to co-founding Brasil Cultura, where he enjoyed creating culture shock for Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas audiences with real Samba dancing(Oh la la!) and Capoeira play/fighting. After an immersion as a Spanish teacher in Arkansas and English teacher in Brazil, he finally made a lifelong passion into a career: Spanish/English and Portuguese/English language interpretation in culturally diverse (yes it is!) central Arkansas.

Daniel is blessed to be married to Maria Sousa, a native Brazilian and naturalized American, who has inspired his current journey as an author. They live in Little Rock and love their international community in the Natural State! They rejoice in being a part of St Michael’s Episcopal (Christian) community in Little Rock, where they are learning how to: “In the spirit of St. Michael, we seek to vanquish the modern-day dragons of poverty, disease and intolerance.”
