Leila Rahim

Leila is of Mauritian descent. She was born in Kent, England. For the past 28 years she has lived and worked in North West London. She was always drawn to work within the public sector and, when she became a mum herself 17 years ago, she was naturally inclined to work with children. She has worked in a state Primary School with all age groups, but her expertise is as a Nursery Nurse, working with 3-4 year olds.

Leila comes from a diverse background herself but she also lives and works in an extremely ethnically diverse population, where English is the second or third language of many of the children that she teaches. This is where the love of books is so important. To instil the love of stories and to increase their literacy is a real necessity. It transcends all barriers.

When a real event occurred affecting her daughter and her cat, it was Leila's colleague who said it would make a good story so, Leila did just that. She imagined the Nursery children listening and used language according to whether she thought they would grasp it and remain engaged.This is how her first book came about. She sincerely hopes children, parents and teachers will enjoy the book as much as she enjoyed creating it. Her husband came on board too and did the illustrations. They are first time Author and first time Illustrator! A joy to do.
