Billye’s goal of sparking curiosity and understanding of STEM subjects in young minds encourages a solid foundation for learning. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are incredibly important—and often underappreciated or misunderstood—subjects. By writing fun, engaging stories, Llee combines fun and learning in a way that promotes healthy thoughts around education.

Billye includes diverse characters to inspire children of all backgrounds with the knowledge to have vibrant career options in STEM. As a career network engineer with a role as a STEM educational speaker, she’s a wonderful person on a powerful mission. One day she hopes to read her books to children all over the world!

Who is your inspiration when writing your books?

I began writing during my first technical position as an engineer. I noticed there were no women in these roles and I decided to write my first book to encourage young girls to become interested in STEM careers.

Why do you write the kinds of books you do?

I write about topics that can provide a fun learning experience, outside of the classroom. There is power in introducing the basics of tech terminology used in STEM careers. My books provide foundational learning by telling a story that engages technology and the world children live in.

What do you think makes a good story?

A good story contains interesting characters, satisfying elements and a learning experience takeaway.

Why do you think children should be introduced to STEM education from an early age?

Technology is advancing and many jobs of the future will require tech skills. I believe it is important to educate children to be competitive in the future job market.
