Dieter Rieken

I have been working as a PR manager in the IT industry for 27 years and have been writing science fiction stories in my free time. Born and raised in Norden, East Friesland, I studied German and Slavic Studies in Bamberg, Berlin and Kiev and graduated with a diploma in German studies in Bamberg. I have been living in Augsburg since 1991, from where I worked as a freelance journalist, editor and film festival organiser ("Days of Independent Film") until 1998.

I've been publishing short stories in anthologies since the 1980s. In my articles, which have appeared in specialist journals, books and other print and online media, I deal with topics from contemporary German literature, film history, IT and electrical engineering.

In 2018, I published "Überlebensprogramm" (Survival Program), a collection of my best short stories that has delighted readers and critics alike.

In 2020 my first novel "Land unter" (Land Underwater) was published by p.machinery, a mixture of climate fiction, crime and homeland novel. This book tells of a group of misfits who try to make a living in the flooded East Friesland under adverse circumstances in the year 2060 and who don't give up, even when they slip into something that threatens to exceed their strength.

My third book "'Zweimal langsamer wie du ...'" ("Twice slower then you ...", p.machinery, 2024) contains three stories from the years 2021–2024: in addition to the title story the novella "Jonas und der Held Terranovas" (Jonas and the Hero of Terra Nova) and the short story "Die Schneekönigen" (The Snow Queen).
