Alberto Rava

Alberto Rava was born in Turin, Italy but thanks to solitary summer holidays at an early age he learnt very quickly to love the sea and all animals.

Water became his natural element so it not surprising that today his “avatar” is a fish.

Collector by nature, the drawers in the house filled up with fossils and shells. He always enjoyed drawing so later in life this became a “safety valve” from the stress of a career in technology (I bet you don’t know what “Vacuum Technology” is).

His three carnets de voyage were self-published in 1997 (Aldabra), in 2004 (Irian Jaya) and Raja Ampat in 2012, all done in calligraphy pen.

His first exhibition also included watercolors and etchings.

Frequent trips to the Egyptian Museum in Turin challenged his creativity in a new direction and the result was a 2011 book of drawings (Animali del Museo Egizio) that today has seen the third reprint and is still for sale in the Museum Bookshop.

All this amateur activity opened a future as illustrator of other people’s books, which is today’s reality. See www.artalberto.it

A deep interest in art but especially his love for the sea and all animals remains his privileged theme. As a Hunter-Gatherer of objects, images and ideas, which could be seen as a primordial instinct, he respects and loves nature so what he can’t pick up, he draws or paints and then today, having reached a limit of space and/or age, he can sell.
