Richard B. Whitaker

Richard Berry Whitaker is a retired Los Angeles Police Department Detective III. During his years on Department, he worked a number of assignments including uniformed patrol, plain clothed-special operations, administrative staff and detective positions. While a detective, he was assigned to robbery, homicide, burglary, juvenile and auto-theft.

After a career in law enforcement, he worked in the top secret world of aerospace, taught at Glendale College, and was an actor and technical advisor to the Television and Motion Picture Industry. Some of his feature films included Lethal Weapon, The Hidden and Internal Affairs.

In television he worked on a number of Stephen J. Cannell projects including A-Team, Hardcastle and McCormick and Stingray. Other television work included roles on Falcon Crest.

Following those years and a move to Las Vegas, he worked in gaming surveillance.

In 1992, following the death of a daughter, he concentrated his efforts on Humanitarian Service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During the ensuing years, he served with his wife Cheryle in South America for five years residing in Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay.

Mr. Whitaker holds a Bachelor of Independent Studies from Brigham Young University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California.

Married with seven children, twenty-one grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, he resides with his wife, Cheryle, in St. George, Utah.

Conflict in Blue-Behind the Badge, was Mr. Whitaker’s first published work of fiction. This was followed by, A Remarkable Journey and Journey to the Land of the Inca. He has also been published in Police Chief Magazine, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Prairie Times Magazine.
